About Mount Banahaw National Park

Mount Banahaw National Park, located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, encompasses the majestic Mount Banahaw, an active complex volcano rising to 2,170 meters (7,120 feet). Surrounded by lush tropical forests, the park harbors a wide array of flora and fauna, many endemic to the region. The mountain itself is considered sacred by many local communities, blending natural beauty with deep cultural and spiritual heritage. Visitors are drawn to the park for its challenging hiking trails, crystal-clear streams, waterfalls, caves, and unique volcanic landscapes. Trails offer varying levels of difficulty and lead to scenic viewpoints such as the peak of Mount Banahaw and the nearby pilgrimage sites frequently visited by devotees. Ecologically, the park supports rare species such as the Banahaw bush warbler and several endemic orchids and ferns. Established in 1923 and spanning over 10,000 hectares, the park plays a crucial role in watershed protection for the surrounding provinces of Laguna and Quezon. Due to its religious significance, access is often regulated to preserve sanctity and minimize environmental impact, with certain areas occasionally closed for restoration or during pilgrimage seasons. The park’s biodiversity, combined with its mystical allure, continues to captivate hikers, naturalists, and spiritual seekers alike.
